Knitting - progress!

Just a wee progress post to show how far I've gotten with my knitting - I'm rather proud. It's several rows of stocking stitch (you can't tell cause looking at it now I took a pic of the wrong side *headdesk* I'm very clever, really), and now I've started with ribbed stitching.

 

I'm rather chuffed, I didn't think I'd pick it up so quick. Still no idea what this will become, but right now I'm just happy to be doing it. And yup, for those playing at home, this was taken with my knitting resting on my Snoopy blanky. Because I am just that cool.

A new and exciting project

So, I've decided to take up a new project/hobby. Knitting. 

Now, it's not really a new hobby. I used to knit when I was younger, but found that I got frustrated with how long the process took. However, my recent love affair with cardigans has encouraged me to get back into it. 

So thisevening I started a new project. I've re-taught myself how to do basic/knit stitch. And I've taught myself to purl, and as such have completed my first few rows of stocking stitch. This is greatly exciting. 

I think I'm making a coffee cozie. It's intended to be a coffee cozie. I am not hopeful it will become a coffee cozzie. It may become some form of...hat or ear warmer thing. We'll see. 

Anyway, I'll let y'all know how the knitting goes!

Thrifted fabric skirt

I know, it's been an age since I posted. However, I've got a skirt I made! 

Remember that post I made back in March about my fabric haul of $2 bits and pieces? Well, the ugly ankle length houndstooth monstrocity has been given a new, and very cool lease on life

A knee-length peplum pencil skirt! And I am in love. Here I've paired it with a thrifted shirt (from the same $2 clothing place that I got the original skirt), and a vintage cardigan I collected at the market this pic was taken at. 

I lined the skirt with a dark navy lining (some cheapy polyester I got on sale for $3/m), and it closes with a zip and then a tabbed button, which I like because it looks very professionally finished - I can't stand when my hand made clothes look untidy/unfinished, so I'm pretty happy this one looks so tidy. It was also a completely home-made pattern, and I hadn't ever lined anything before so that was an entertaining project! 

I've got a few more half-finished projects in the works, so with any luck I'll be blogging more often!

First project in my new sewing room

So, while I may not be completely moved into my new apartment, my sewing machine is! I've a gorgeous little room, which is going to houae a single spare bed, our old dining table for fabric cutting, and a desk for my machine - and I couldn't be happier. You can see in the pics that there is actually quite a lot of space, the machining desk will be against the wall at the end of the bed. There's also a wardrobe behind the door, so that's a real bonus for fabric and notion storage!

The first project I undertook in my new room wasn't exactly astounding, I replaced a zip in my good friend's skirt. He was pleased for the bed in the room cause he could relax while I sewed!

I can't wait until I have the whole room set up so I can show you all what it looks like fully set up :)

First post, first haul!

Hi everyone, and welcome to the first post of Dancing in my PJs Crafts! 

I'm super excited to be blogging my crafting and sewing adventures, and it'll be awesome having you all along with me. 

I'm starting this blog off with a bang - a multi-fabric haul :D

I went to the $2 Clothing Warehouse today (its a big second hand clothing store, and everything in it is $2) to try and find some new jeans; the weather is starting to get colder, and I can't afford a new pair of jeans at $29.99-$49.99 a pair (being a poor student sucks!), so a couple of $2 second hand pairs seems a brilliant option. Having found the jeans, I had a wee wander around the warehouse, and...well then I accidentally spent $12 on random amounts of fabric. But, to be fair, considering how I'd barely get 1m of decent fabric for $12 in an actual fabric store, I'm pretty happy with my purchases. 

Here's what I got:

Starting in the bottom left corner, we have a Cathay Pacific flight blanket in a dark green and black mix (which while it isn't very big, it should make a cute wee skirt); an icecream pastel green duvet cover with a ribbon pattern in white, dark red-pink, yellow, and light pink; a long piece of curtain fabric in an olive green with a verticle floral panel; a blue, white and green striped duvet, which on the reverse is a different blue and white striped print; a black and white houndstooth skirt which I'm going to cut up and make something else from; and then, in the centre, my absolute favourite of the haul, a wool/acrylic combo in light grey with a wide tartan in fluro pink, fluro blue and white. It is freaking impressive. 

Thus far, I have no set plan of what these will become. The duvet covers will probably become dresses, the dark green and the houndstooth will most likely be skirts, and the amazeballs grey/fluro number will most likely become an awesome jacket. It isn't particularly heavy, so it'l definitely need to be lined with something fairly sturdy, I'm thinking a bright pink lining to match the bright pink stripes (which are practically fluro in person, which I think is really awesome for autumn/winter, as it brightens everything up, while still being practical. I'm usually fairly against stereotyping fabrics and clothing to one season or another, so I'm looking forward to what I can make out of these. In preparation of making dresses and skirts, I also bought two new pairs of think 70 denier tights when I was out, both in black, so they'll make even dresses or skirts much more wearable. 

So, for a first post, I'm pretty pleased with that! I may end up making up something out of one of these fabrics tonight, and if I do I'll be sure to let you all see.
