Captain Jack Coat

So I am finally getting around to posting pics of the Captain Jack coat I made for my friend's five year old. 

I used the Oliva and Oliver Pea Coat pattern from Peekaboo Patterns on Etsy, and it was an absolute dream to work with. A little extension on the length plus some added details and it worked perfectly for what I wanted. 

The fabric we chose was a 100% New Zealand wool coating we found for $15.90 per metre, around half the cost it would usually be; the lining was just a lining fabric in the right colour that we managed to grab for $3 a metre.  

And here it is! 

I am so happy with how it turned out!

And the back:

Here the back split looks like a box pleat, but it's just the inside facing showing through. It does have the traditional split up the back for walking! 

And some details I was exceptionally proud of:

 Belt loop on the back

Three buttons on the back cuff of each sleeve

Shoulder tabs

One of the hardest bits of the entire project - welt pockets with flaps! I used the amazingly helpful BurdaStyle Tutorial for these

Lapel point

Centre back seam - not the most special of details, but I was so happy with my ability to get it looking straight and even! 

The join between the back seam and the split - I think it ended up looking rather tidy!
